City of Long Beach Animal Care Services

Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) is a vital partner in The Little Lion Foundation’s Community Cat Project. Together, we work to reduce the population of free-roaming cats in our service areas—Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Cerritos, and Signal Hill—through targeted spay and neuter initiatives. LBACS helps make this possible by providing free spay and neuter vouchers to residents within these cities who own cats or dogs. These vouchers help ensure that owned pets are sterilized, preventing unwanted litters and reducing the number of animals entering the shelter system each year. By partnering closely with LBACS, we are able to expand our reach, assist more community members, and provide lifesaving care to countless cats in need.

Through this collaboration, we share a common goal: to create a more compassionate and sustainable community for both animals and people. Our joint efforts make it easier for residents to be part of the solution, whether by fixing their own pets or participating in the humane management of community cats. It’s important to note that spaying and neutering pets is not only beneficial—it’s also the law in California. State and local ordinances require that dogs and cats over a certain age be sterilized unless exempt for medical or breeding purposes. Together with LBACS, we’re proud to help ensure compliance with this law while improving the welfare of animals across our region.
